"Willa Shalit is proving that shopping can transform other people's lives." ~ Oprah Magazine
In January 2010, a devastating earthquake changed the lives of those in Haiti. From dealing with deaths, job loss, unsafe and unclean living, among many other issues, Haitians are still trying to pick up the pieces a year later. Willa Shalit, founder of Fair Winds Trading, spends her life working to improve lives of individuals across the world. Shalit has been working with the women of Rwanda for the last several years. As a result, Fair Winds Trading now imports their handwoven baskets, African-gemstone jewelry, textile bags, and table linens, as well as products from Tanzania, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
Shalit has given job opportunities to Haitians to help rebuild their lives thru Heart of Haiti. From recycled oil drums to papier mache, artists in Haiti are capable of transforming unlikely materials into beautiful art. These pieces of art not only represent the drive to rebuild their community but also the rich culture which is found in Haiti. By purchasing one of these masterpieces, you will be directly helping Haitian artisans and their families. Artisans receive 22% of the retail price for each item.
Valentine's Day is a month away and instead of purchasing flowers, cards and candy…. think about giving your loved one a Gift that Gives Back. Help the men and women of Haiti feed and clothe their families, repair homes and pay school fees. Heart of Haiti is changing lives. Join them in making a difference. Shop for a better world!
