Gifts for Mom that Give Back

Mother’s Day is less than a week away and many are scrambling to find that perfect gift for the special woman in their life. I encourage you to choose a gift from a company that gives back so that you not only celebrate your mother and all that she’s done for you but that you may also help another person along the way. Here are 5 Brands that I recommend as gifts for mom that give back. She will fall in love with them.

In January, I became a Champion with the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign. Thru this campaign I met Dani Lachowicz, founder of Bloom + Grace-a modern jewelry company that works with global designers creating beautiful one of a kind pieces. Bloom + Grace helps to provide lifesaving vaccines to children in developing countries thru their partnership with Shot@Life. This campaign is special to me as I am directly involved and the jewelry from Bloom + Grace is truly stunning. Is it any wonder this made my list of gifts for mom that give back???

The Giving Keys creates beautiful and unique jewelry with repurposed keys. Each key has a message whether it be FEARLESS, HOPE, STRENGTH, COURAGE…and a great one for mom INSPIRE. The idea is when you encounter someone who may need the message, you pass the piece of jewelry on to them. When creating these keys Caitlin realized that “we are all like these keys – unique, flawed, scarred, and sometimes discarded by others – she wanted these keys to have their purpose renewed over and over again.” I think this sends out a beautiful message. Over the last few years, The Giving Keys has provided employment for those transitioning out of homelessness and helped them move into permanent housing.

Today the first cruise ship from the United States to Cuba docked in Havana. That’s major history. Fathom Travel, a new Carnival cruise line, provides trips to the Dominican Republic and now Cuba. Ok, so a cruise can be a little pricey for some for a Mother’s Day gift BUT talk about an exciting gift for mom! Maybe you and your siblings can chip in together to give your mom this incredible experience. The best part to me about this cruise is that it’s not like any other. Once on land, there are opportunities to participate in a variety of activities that will make a long-term impact on those within the community.

I actually get to take this trip this summer to the Dominican. It’s one thing to make a purchase and know that a portion is going to charity. It’s totally different to have hands-on experience making a difference in the lives of others.

I love candles and I really love the concept behind Prosperity Candle. Every candle creates opportunities for women refugees. This company has provided training and jobs to women in Iraq, Haiti, and to refugees in the United States. There are beautiful candles to choose from but there’s also an option to ‘Design Your Own’. A story card arrives with the candle so you can learn about the woman who made it. What a special way to see the difference your purchase makes.

A couple of months ago I joined the Bravelets team as an independent fundraising consultant. Their concept of ‘giving back’ is really incredible. “There are times in all of our lives where we need to be brave – whether for ourselves, for our family, for our friends, or even for a complete stranger. Bravelets™ bracelets are more than just something to wear on your wrist. They are a symbol of hope, strength, and courage. They are designed to help you be brave in the toughest of times.”

With every bracelet sold, $10 goes to the cause of your choice. Maybe your mother is facing a difficult battle or holds a cause close to her heart. These bracelets will remind her of her journey while encouraging her to BE BRAVE along the way.

*************

There are so many brands that have giving back programs in place that would be perfect for your mom. This Mother’s Day I hope you choose to show your mom your appreciation with any of these gifts for mom that give back. What would you add to this list?
