Life lately has been absolutely insane. Some days I feel I can’t keep my head above water. This is partly why there’s been a lack of posts here.
I have been busy continuing the transition to a lifestyle, travel, and philanthropy focused site. I don’t think I quite knew what I was getting myself into. There’s a lot to do! I have all of these ideas and plans in the works for Pretty in the Queen City and I hope you stick with me as I go thru it.
My view during my last visit to the DR
I have a busy few months ahead of me. In June I head to the Dominican Republic with Fathom Travel. This is my first international media trip. I am feeling ecstatic over the experience and thrilled to be among many other incredible bloggers.
Over the last few months, I’ve become involved with the UN Foundation’s campaign Shot@Life. This led me to another campaign they have called Girl Up which will hold it’s annual Leadership Summit this summer. I thought this would be a great opportunity for my daughter. In July I’ll be taking her and two other teenage girls to D.C. for this summit.
“From July 11-13, 300 passionate girl advocates from around the world will convene for the 5th annual Girl Up Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. For three days these young female leaders will participate in leadership training, learn from influential speakers, engage in skills-based workshops, and lead an official lobby day on Capitol Hill.
Through mentorship by Girl Up experts, Teen Advisors, celebrity champions, and corporate executives, Summit participants will gain core leadership skills, training in community-building and advocacy, and experience interacting with members of Congress on Capitol Hill. The Summit strives to empower, educate and embolden the potential of every girl there.”
I am really excited about this trip. Meeting with Congress during my work with Shot@Life and simply walking the halls of Capitol Hill was an incredible experience. I imagine this will be an unforgettable experience for the girls.
In January I became a member of the UN-USA and hope to one day bring a Chapter here to Charlotte. If you are local and interested in this organization PLEASE let me know!
My mini walking along the beach in Hilton Head Island
In August I will head back to Hilton Head. This is our yearly summer vacation spot and this year I plan on sharing some of my favorite things about HH with you. We absolutely love this destination and highly recommend it for those seeking a more laid-back atmosphere for their family holiday.
In addition, I hope to complete my Travel Journalism course this summer with MatadorU. I’m halfway done! It’s been really tough for me but I’ve learned a great deal and have already been asked to submit articles for a major travel site. If they get published I can assure you that I will be sharing this news with you via the blog and social media.
I also recently became a fundraising consultant for a company called Bravelets. I assist individuals and nonprofits in helping them raise money and awareness for their cause. This company was a natural choice for me because it aligned perfectly with my life and Pretty in the Queen City.
Finally, I have a really big project I’m working on. We’re talking a new brand and possibly a store. I’m not ready to share the details just yet but I can assure you that you will love it.
So, as you can see, while I have lots of new content on its way, I have a ton on my plate right now, and my life is a little bit busy! I am looking forward to sharing my travels with you along with new brands that give back.
It’s going to be a busy but rewarding summer.
