When I started thinking about writing this weekly feature, I knew I had to include one of my favorite local makeup artists. I met her about 2 years ago at an event for L’oreal .Her knowledge in beauty and personality attracted everyone around her.

This week, my Queen City Pretty is Joy N. Randall .Joy is the owner of Flawless Make Up Art in Charlotte, NC. A liscensed cosmetologist with over 5 years experience, this young lady knows that it’s not always about a product as much as it is about the artist. She has worked for companies such as MAC Cosmetics, L’Oreal and Cover Girl to name a few, and has been published in various magazines such as People and Sophisticates Black Hair with covers to her credit. She has worked with major networks like VH1, BET, and TV One. Her work can currently be seen on VH1’s Fantasia For Real! She has also worked in film, and runway.

Continue reading to learn beauty secrets from this local expert and this weeks Queen City Pretty!

As a makeup artist, you live and breathe the beauty industry, what is your beauty product must have? Hmmm…these days? lol! I go through my cycles of must haves! lol But I would definitely say MAC’s Brow Pencil! Its the perfect little contraption! Brows frame the face, when there not right…nothing looks right.

If I were to peek in YOUR makeup bag, what would I find?   Mineralize Skin Finish Pressed Powder by MAC, Mini Kabuki Brush, Dior Show Mascara, MAC Brow Pencil,  L’Oreal’s New Lengthening Mascara, Stila Lip Gloss in Blackberry and Tangerine, MAC Cremesheen in Over Indulgence, MAC Light That Fire Lip Gloss…and a blush brush with just enough product still on it to refresh my cheeks if necessary!

You are constantly pampering others at various events, photoshoots, etc, how do you pamper yourself after a long week? By talking to no one!  I try to disconnect when I am off work, although its hard. I don’t watch TV, no calls, texts or emails. Dealing with people all day can be very draining. But I love a good mani/pedi! And shopping always does the trick! ;)

What spa/salon service can you not live without? Threading!!! Female Mustaches are sooo not cool! I love facials and microderms too!

Who is your beauty icon?  Hmmm…good question.  Hard to say…Right now its probably Erykah Badu, because she just does her own thing and doesn’t care what anyone thinks. I have always liked women like that…Tina Turner, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper. I love Rhianna’s look right now! Her lips are always poppin!

What is your definition of Beauty?  Self Confidence is true beauty…embracing exactly how God made you and loving every bit of it! Only then, can you truly feel beautiful. When you feel good about you, it shines through no matter what you look like!  and that has nothing to do with make up! ;)

Any last words? Be on the Lookout for my work on Season 2 of Vh1’s Fantasia For Real! You can still catch season 1 on Vh1’s website! Also look out for Fantasia’s Behind The Music coming up as well! Flawless Make Up Art is about artistry! Full service make up artistry…events, nights out, body painting, tv, editorial, you name it!  So when you see me…please don’t ask me “Oh do you do weddings?” The answer of course is Yes, but I do so much more!

To contact Joy, you may reach her at   www.facebook.com/flawlessmakeupart  and on Twitter @Flawlessmakeup . Also make sure to bookmark, read, & comment her blog at www.joynichellerandall.blogspot.com

I want to thank Joy for sharing a glimpse into her world. Next week, we peek into the closet and mind of Mike Watson, local artist and instructor at the Art Institute of Charlotte.
