Disclosure *My visit to Roswell was part of a Press Trip in partnership with IFWTWA however all opinions are my own.*

During my recent visit to Roswell I had the opportunity to check out some of the incredible outdoor activities offered in the area. I lived in Atlanta for about seven years and never spent time in Roswell. Sure, I drove through the area but I wouldn’t have been able to tell you about any local activities. I’m actually disappointed I missed so much greatness! It’s rich with history and culture, nature, restaurants, museums, and events.

Here are three outdoor activities in Roswell that you shouldn’t miss!

Old Roswell Mill Park

95 Mill St, Roswell, GA 30075

Free; Open to Public

Roswell King, a dealer in cotton, rice and lumber was traveling through North Georgia on business when he recognized the manufacturing potential in the local resources along Vickery Creek.  Originally named after Charlotte Vickery, a Cherokee woman, the area is now known as Big Creek. This has been the site of numerous mills for over 140 years. The 1854 machine shop and a cotton mill built in 1882 are the only structures remaining in this area. The covered pedestrian bridge connects the walking trail from Old Mill Park to the Chattahoochee River Trail.

This is a beautiful place for photography due to the waterfall and streams but personally I’d come here for a bit of quiet time…away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Chattahoochee Nature Center
9135 Willeo Road
Roswell, GA 30075
770-992-2055

$10 for adults; $6 for children ages 3-12; Children 2 and under are free

The Chattahoochee Nature Center Pavilion is a great place for an event! (or picnic)

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is located along the Chattahoochee River. It sits on 127 acres of pure beauty. This is probably one of my favorite places in Roswell. Not only is it a peaceful retreat for the day but it’s a great place for children to learn about native plants and gardens that are showcased at the center. In addition to the gardens, the center is home to over 50 species. All are non-releasable to the wild due to long term injuries. My favorite part of the center is the Unity Garden, which I’ll feature on a separate post. It’s the largest provider to area food banks. They are doing incredible things at the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

Roswell Ghost Tour

$15 for adults; $10 for children 12 and under. I do not recommend this tour for extremely young children.

Paranormal  investigations have been so fascinating to me and I’ve always had a strong interest in participating. I was so thrilled that this was included on our itinerary. I’ve been on one ghost tour in Savannah in the past but Roswell Ghost Tour was far more incredible. This award-winning tour is recognized as the best in Atlanta and I can certainly see why. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Roswell. In fact, she told me she went on this particular tour for five years before becoming a guide. That’s passion! Not only do they offer investigations with experts such as Chip Coffey (fan girl here!) but they also offer Paint & Party ghost tours and Bring Your Leashed Pet tours. I have already started thinking about my next visit to Roswell so that I can participate in an investigation with the team. That would be something to write about! I will not share any stories from the tour as it’s something you must experience for yourself.

The Unity Garden at Chattahoochee Nature Center is very impressive. Like the fact that the resident chickens lay eggs that also go to local food banks. Impressive community effort! Creative thinking…Worth a visit.
