My Visit to Bishops Lydeard (Part 2-The Village)

I absolutely adore the village of Bishops Lydeard. It was so quiet and quaint. The lifestyle and pace is very much different than what I am used to back home. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed it so much!

Check out my view from my bedroom window. This is a photo of my inlaws front yard. It’s like looking at a postcard.

Another reason I found this place unlike anywhere else I’ve seen was the history behind it. For example? The Bishops Lydeard, St Mary’s Church was first documented in 1239!  The tower of the church was built from red sandstone found nearby in the Quantock Hills. It really is a stunning church to look at. I wish I had of taken the opportunity to step inside. Maybe the next visit!

 

The West Somerset Railway is also within walking distance. This is where my niece and nephews like to watch the trains and even ride them given the chance. This railway actually opened in 1862 and is one of Britain’s longest heritage steam railways. This railway is cared for by volunteers! Now that’s what I call community.

Throughout my stay I visited many businesses that I will share in separate posts as I truly want to put a spotlight on some of these gems.

If you ever find yourself in the area of Somerset, England I highly recommend making your way to Bishops Lydeard. If you aren’t seeking your typical tourist sites or if you are just interested in a little bit of history…..this is definitely one of the places to add to your travel list.
