Disclosure: I was a guest of theTourist Committee of Karpathos Municipality and Holiday World Karpathos Travel during my trip to Karpathos Island. However, all opinions are my own.

Windmill in Karpathos, Island

Greece has become one destination that I can say without a doubt has forever become a part of my heart. Several years back I had the opportunity to tour the Corinthian Riviera spending time in many villages along the way. With every visit I’ve made, I’ve been able to discover the unbelievable beauty and experiences this country has to offer. During my most recent visit, I explored Karpathos Island with Holiday World Karpathos Travel. This laid back breathtaking island is worth adding it to and checking it off your travel bucket list.

The Community

I truly fell in love with the people of Karpathos Island. They are warm and inviting. I’m pretty sure I walk into more open arms here than anywhere else I’ve been. Everyone is eager to share their love of their community.

The lovely lady pictured below has a heart of gold and is full of joy. She along with the other women of the Ladies Association of Pyles in Karpathos are doing amazing things for their community. They sell homemade products and then donate money when new babies are born. As long as they live in the village, they help support these children. This is one of many ways Karpathians help their community.

Visit Olympos

The village of Olympos

Take a boat to North Karpathos Island and visit the village of Olympos. This village was built between the 7th and 9th century and was only recently accessible by car. Due to years of isolation, the traditions in the village are still strong. The women even wear their traditional clothing. We had the opportunity to tour the area with Ecotourism Karpathos. This was by far one of the most interesting places I’ve ever visited.

This is the look of pure joy on my face.

Hike on the Island of Saria

While on Karpathos Island, take a ferry to the small island of Saria. Now uninhabited, it’s a beautiful place to learn a bit of history, hike, and take a dip in the sea. I found the hike to be pretty easy although it’s over a hour long. It’s worth every step. Just make sure you are prepared with proper shoes. I saw a few trying to walk it in flip flops and that would be very difficult. The view from the top was stunning so bring your camera!

Swim at the Famous Beaches of Karpathos

Sofia My Love is a wooden ship owned by a lovely local couple-Vasileios and Sofia. Karpathos Island has several beaches to visit and it’s best to ask the locals which are their favorite. Or you can take a trip on Sofia My Love and explore all of the famous beaches of Karpathos including Apela Beach and swim in the bay of Kira Panagia. Lunch was also prepared by the Captain off the ship and served on the beach.

5 star hotel Alimounda Mare is a newly built property located in the heart of Pigadia, the capital of Karpathos. The views from our rooms were stunning and I’m pretty sure I could have spent more time in their infinity pool.

Where to Eat:

Greece has some of the best food in the world and Karpathos Island was no disappointment. There are so many fantastic restaurants around the Island that you can’t go wrong with but here are three of my favorites.
