Smoked Salmon and Caviar Pizza (Recipe)

Let’s rewind to 2005. At the time I was still living in Atlanta working as a talent agent and model. I had this strong desire to become a news anchor. This was a dream of mine since I was a little girl…..instead of a Barbie dreamhouse….I had a Barbie newsroom. I always wanted to work for a big station or even have my own talk show. BIG dream. So, how does this relate to Smoked Salmon and Caviar Pizza?

Well, in that year the Georgia Aquarium had it’s grand opening. My friend Camille is a makeup artist and had been hired to do the makeup for the hosts of The Today Show…Matt Lauer, Al Roker, etc. She knew my deep down dream so she invited me along. The Today Show would be airing live from the Aquarium for it’s big opening. We had to be there at a ridiculous time….like 4am or something but I was SO excited. I wore my best suit and even was asked if I was media by several people. They thought I was WITH The Today Show. Big honor there!

You MUST visit this Aquarium if you haven’t been. So, who had a restaurant in this magnificent place? Wolfgang Puck! And guess who was going to be cooking live on The Today Show? Wolfgang Puck.

Camille and I were chatting with WP while she was freshening him up for t.v. After she had moved on to Al Roker, WP walked back in with a plate for each of us…..of his famous Smoked Salmon and Caviar Pizza. Ok…so it was like 4 or 5am and maybe salmon and caviar doesn’t seem very appetizing that early in the a.m…..but who can turn away Wolfgang Puck when he took the time to make you a meal. It was the nicest gesture! And it was oh so yummy. I’ve never had it since then. Not once.

Over the Holidays, I had friends over and one of the foods I served was Smoked Salmon and Caviar Pizza. I just had the strongest urge to try my hand at this meal. While it’s nowhere near to the perfect pizza I was served 8 years ago….I was quite proud. It turned out great and my guests loved it!

Ingredients
3 to 4 ounces smoked salmon
1 can of Pizza Dough
Extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 bunch fresh dill, minced
1/3 cup sour cream
1 2 oz jar of Caviar – I used Romanoff Red Salmon

Directions

Preheat the oven at 350 degrees F.

Stretch the dough into 4 circles. Sprinkle flour on a pizza stone. Place the circles of dough on the pizza stone. As seen in the picture, my pizza stone broke! So, I had to work with what I had. Brush olive oil on each pizza.

Mix the dill, onion and sour cream. Spread this mixture on each pizza.  Arrange Salmon over the cream.  Slide the Stone into the oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden.

Tranfer pizza to a place and place a spoonful of caviar in the center of each pizza.

My recipe is quite a bit different than the original. But, it’s easy and SO good!  What’s your fav recipe using Smoked Salmon?
