I have searched high and low for the perfect lasagna recipe and I’m most certain I found it. I came across THIS recipe at AllRecipes.com and after some Pretty in the QC changes, I created a meal that my family requests often. I love hearing “This is the best lasagna I’ve ever had!”.

Looks yummy doesn’t it!

Ingredients:

  • 2  small cans of tomato paste (6 oz)
  • 2 cans of tomato sauce (8oz)
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 1/2 teaspooons Italian Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 ground pepper
  • chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 package of no boil lasagna noodles
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 packages of sliced mozzarella cheese

Cook sausage, ground turkey, onion and garlic on top of the stove until brown. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Technically, your sauce doesn’t have to cook so long however the longer you cook, the richer and better the ingredients.

Combine ricotta cheese and eggs.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and begin assembling in baking dish.  Arrange noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread portions of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with mozzarella. Then repeat layers beginning with meat sauce finishing off with mozarella and parmesan. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 20 minutes. Top with parsley.

And there you have it. A fantastic Homemade Lasagna.
