I am not a big fan of traditional exercise. I do love to run but that is the extent of “traditional” that I enjoy. I am not a fan of heading to the gym at 5am to run on a treadmill or lift weights. I do love to stay active and I love having fun while staying in shape. I am going to share with you my Top 5 ways to stay in shape without feeling like you are exercising.
A couple of years ago, I was hired to be a spokesperson for Wii Fit. It’s a hard job, I Know. For an entire week, I participated in the 4 categories that are included: yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance games. You would have never convinced me that I could get a workout from playing a video game, until I tried it. If you are looking to become a body builder, it’s not for you. If you want to burn calories, then this is your ticket!
Who would have ever thought one of my favorite pasttimes as a child would become a huge hit in the world of fitness? According to Wikipedia, A study by the American Council on Exercise found that a thirty minute hooping workout burns around 200 calories. Not bad when you could be hooping in the back yard with your children! Make sure to purchase the weighted hoops for the best results!
Zumba is a huge craze taking over gyms across the nation. It’s a combination of dance steps with Latin Style beats developed by fitness guru Beto Perez. It promises to provide a full body workout .
Pure Barre is another craze taking over the nation and I am happy to say they recently opened up a location right here in Charlotte! Pure Barre is a complete body workout combining pilates and ballet. This is one form of exercise that truly intrigues me and I plan on checking it out.
With all the dance shows on t.v. these days, I had a strong desire to learn latin/ballroom dancing. After checking out a couple of locations, I decided to take private and group lessons at Queen City Ballroom. I did not expect to be that sore after my first class! The best part is, not only are you exercising but you are also socializing and learning a skill that could be used at future events.
I am sure there are several other ways to stay in shape. I am not a fitness guru. I just kow what has worked for myself and for those I know personally.
And please remember, the above will not work without a proper diet! (I am supposed to say that…right?)
