Win Tickets to Opera Carolina’s Production of Pagliacci + Aleko

March 29, 2016 By Amelia Old Leave a Comment

The opera season is nearing it’s end here in Charlotte but not without one more incredible production.

Opera Carolina

 Presents

Pagliacci + Aleko

April 10th, 14th, and 16th.

A betrayal leads to jealousy and then murder. That’s the plot of many true crime books and TV shows. But it’s also the plot for a pair of one-act operas Opera Carolina is showcasing together.  Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Aleko has never before been staged by a professional opera company in the United States. This rare production is being programmed with an opera that’s one of the genre’s most beloved – Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci.

The powerful double bill makes use of a common theme (betrayal and murder) to match two one-act operas not typically seen together. Pagliacci is beloved by opera fans. Aleko, Rachmaninoff’s first opera is not widely known in this country. A celebrated composer and conductor, he is also hailed as one of the finest pianists of all time. Well known for his Second and Third piano concertos, Rachmaninoff only wrote two other operas. Some in the arts world view this as a loss to lovers of vocal music.

We received such awesome feedback when we did our last giveaway with Opera Carolina that we’ve decided to give away tickets to this production as well. If you’ve not had the opportunity to attend the Opera-here’s your chance. This is certainly one production you do not want to miss.

I am giving away TWO tickets to see Opera Carolina’s Pagliacci +Aleko

Win Tickets to Opera Carolina’s Upcoming Production of Romeo & Juliet

January 11, 2016 By Amelia Old 1 Comment

It has been 400 years since Shakespeare also known as ‘The Bard of Avon’ left Earth to wander towards what I assume the Heavens above.  Often called ‘the greatest poet that ever lived’ he created many stories that we are familiar with. One being the love story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Believed to have been written between 1591 and 1595, as most know this tragic tale is about “two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families.” 12509427_10153771125567649_1540370474852274836_n In 1867, Charles Gounod gained great success with his operatic version of Romeo & Juliet. A few months ago I shared my love of the Opera with you. I took my husband to see Beethoven’s one and only opera-Fidelio. It was incredible! Opera Carolina never fails to put on a good show which is why I am thrilled about their production of  Romeo and Juliet. It runs January 24th, 28th, and 30th. Not only will I attend but I have been granted a backstage tour. And if that wasn’t enough I will have a chance to chat with Maestro Meena (he’s the Conductor) right before the show. I may even run into Romeo or Juliet…who knows!? It IS a New Year and it’s the perfect time to start checking things off your bucket list. SO, with that said.

Who wants to go see Romeo and Juliet on Opening Day?

I am giving away TWO tickets to see Opera Carolina’s Romeo & Juliet on January 24th, 2016 at 2:00pm.

Good Luck and Enter Below!
